Monfalcone 03-09-2014 Lungo tutto il confine del Friuli Venezia Giulia, e nella fattispecie nella zona del Carso isontino, si snoda quello che durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, o Grande Guerra, era chiamato il fronte orientale, conteso tra l'esercito italiano e quello austro-ungarico. La zona del fiume Isonzo, obiettivo strategico, fu teatro di ben 11 battaglie e di una estenuante guerra di posizione, costata la vita migliaia di soldati. Numerose sono ancora le testimonianze di quei terribili giorni sulle colline isontine, per cui, con i patrocinio della comunità' europea, sono stati costituiti dei veri 'musei all' aperto' con percorsi che permettono di visitare i luoghi più' importanti di quelle battaglie.
Along the northern borders of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy, was part of the called Eastern Front during the 'World War I' also said the 'Great War'. The Isonzo river, a strategic target, was theatre of 11 battles between italian and Austro-Hungarian troops, where hundred thousand soldiers lost their lives.
To remember that war, a series of 'open air museums' where established, along the most important places where the battles took place and where is still possible to see trenched systems, hospitals, mass graves, barbed wire ecc.
